Pop-up blocker causing issues

Hello guys,
My app has been working fine with the launch URL as long as I'm already in the app executing that behavior. I'm getting a pop-up blocker in Chrome when I launch an app and then immediately fire an event that then launches the URL.
Hopefully, that makes sense. I wondering what I can do to not get the pop-up blocker involved.
On my workstation, I have told Chrome to not block those popups.
Any idea why launching a URL acts like a pop-up if you are launching an app at the same time?

I know we discussed this during our call, but I wanted to share some information here for others.

The popup blocker is being triggered because the user isn't actually clicking on an element on the page that launches the window
