[HELPED] how to display a banner in the portal

We use the Valence portal in our trade customer's website. You know how some websites show a "banner" (image or flash, whatever) on top or at the bottom of the page. Is there a way that we could show something like this in the Valence portal? What would you suggest to achieve this?

We currently use version 3.2 of the portal.

I would suggest using the "Hook.js" file to tie into one of the componentrender events. Maybe at the render of the "navtoolbar", insert another item to the viewport. If you want the banner up top, add the item as region north.
