App Variable & Get Field Value

There is an issue when linking my app variable 'ItemCount' to Get Field Value in my form widget.

The app variable is set correctly on launch, but after adding / editing / removing and item the app var is not updated.

the form widget its supposed to get the field value from is correct, but the app variable remains as its previous value.

Please take a look at the screen shots attached for the set up
