  • VVFUSION data area locked

We have VVFUSION data area value set to *OFF in our production instance but since migrating to version 6.2.20230927.0 there is now an intermittant issue where that data area is exclusively locked (*EXCLRD) but other processes time out waiting for that lock to release. This causes our sales portal to stall or crash. We have manually cancelled jobs holding locks on that data area to allow other functions to work. This may be related to excel functionality in Valence.

It is not clear why something would be looking at that data area given we don't have VVFUSION switched on. We are running OS 7.5.

Would it be possible for you to get more info on the job holding the exclusive lock when this occurs? Is the lock-holder a non-Valence CGI job, or a job stuck in MSGW? Or perhaps both?

Only Valence jobs refer to VVFUSION *DTAARA. Our programs indirectly refer to it because they call the "vvout_" routines. So, all our excel based reports could lock the *DTAARA for extended time via Valence routines as per job stack shown in previous post. But also, the Valence portal hangs whenever the VVFUSION *DTAARA is locked causing all users to wait. That includes standard Valence functions like "Test RPG Call".

Wrapping up this thread: This problem turned out to be related to another issue caused when creating Excel downloads through non-CGI jobs. This will be corrected in the next build.
