  • Fusion5250 enhancements

Here are some suggestions after testing Fusion5250 compared to our current IBM i Client Access implementation across our user base.

    1. The function to copy/paste needs a way to identify that you may be copying columns of data. IBM Client Access does this by implementing multiple "copy" commands to identify that you may be copying a "table" and then it applies some AI to determine where columns probably begin/end and pastes them with "tab" separator to paste correctly into excel. It also identifies negative numbers based on a minus sign at the end of digits and moves the minus sign to the front so that the paste correctly interprets negative numbers in excel, otherwise excel assumes numbers ending in minus sign are non-nummeric text.

    2. Another major improvement would be more keyboard mapping. We use the following:
    * New line (previously known as linefeed) for shifting cursor down to the first input capable field on the next line (Shift+Enter).
    * Field minus if you're using a laptop that doesn't have the big minus key in the number pad. Depending on device, different mapping is necessary.
    * EOF maps to the "End" key on windows keyboards naturally. I see that's not the case on chromebooks so Shift+RightArrow (which is there) is required also.
    * We switch between multiple sessions with Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, Ctrl+3, etc (previously this was Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3, etc which was good also). Is there a way to start multiple sessions in Fusion5250?
    * Can we mark character blocks (IBM CA uses Shift+Arrow keys) then press Ctrl+c to copy, Ctrl+v to paste or Ctrl+x to cut?

    3. Function keys are not common or standard on all devices anymore and Chromebooks don't even have 12 keys for that purpose, let alone 24. Is it possible to show a soft function key panel so users can click the function keys?

    4. We standardise the implementation of Client Access across the user base so all devices work the same. This allows mobility across devices. Can we define the settings like keyboard mapping at the server level so all users work same way? Some users like color coding their multiple sessions so that setting would be at a user/session level. The color coding is just the font color (instead of all being green).

    Thanks,

    Peter
