I am looking for some example of how to set a button color based on an app variable or button click.

Unfortunately, we don't have an easy way to change the color dynamically. However, in the upcoming 6.2 update, you will be able to change the color via an app variable.

That app variable must be one of our predefined colors from the colors tab. In the next update, you will be able to hover over the color to see its hex value
