  • Valence 3.0.20110815.0

    Version: 3.0.20110815.0

    Release Date: 2011-08-15

    About this Release:

This is the first general release of Valence 3.0. These release notes are intended to document what has changed since the last beta release (BETA 3). If you have used prior versions of Valence but are new to Valence 3.0, read the release notes for BETA 1, BETA 2 and BETA 3 first to see what has changed since the last major release (Valence 2.2).

    Installing This Release:
    • Go to the downloads page to see what releases are available. If this release is superseded by another release it may no longer be available.
    • This release will install to library VALENCE30 and ifs path /valence-3.0. It will also install an Apache server instance named VALENCE30.
    • If you have Valence versions 2.2 and prior installed on your system you may install this release without affecting those earlier versions.
    • If you have previously installed Valence 3.0 BETAs 1, 2 or 3, installing this release will completely overwrite those versions. If you have any problems installing over a beta release, delete library VALENCE30 and ifs path /valence-3.0 and try the installation again.
    • Once installed you can access the Valence portal with the link http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7030/valence/vvlogin.pgm where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the ip address of your IBM i.

Major New Features Included in Valence 3.0 since the release of BETA 3:
    • Valence Instance Manager - This release introduces the Valence Instance Manager for cloning Valence instances and making it easier to apply future Valence updates. The Instance Manger is part of the new Valence Enterprise Edition and is automatically activated for a 90-day trial period on new installations of Valence 3.0. Pricing and ordering instructions for the Valence Enterprise Edition are now available at the CNX Store.
    • The administration program for "Options" has been renamed to "Apps." It has been refactored for Ext JS 4 and enhanced for usability.
    • Refresh option added to menu button in portal via right-click (mimics functionality available in navigation tree mode).
    • "Beautify" option added to Nitro to automatically indent and properly format JavaScript source.
    • More example programs refactored for Ext JS 4.
    • Select Valence Portal core screens and administration programs as well as Valence Nitro have been professionally translated for this release and are now usable in all eight languages that Valence supports (Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish).
    • Updated Valence Manual and API Documentation (available within the Valence Portal after installation to your IBM i).
    • Additionally see the release notes for Valence 3.0 BETA 1, BETA 2, and BETA 3 for all features added since Valence 2.2.

Bug Fixes Since Valence 3.0 BETA 3:
    • Corrected bug in password change function that would cause password to remain the same under certain setups
    • Adjusted administrative apps so that checkboxes don't require two clicks to toggle
    • Corrected bug that was causing text to not propagate to appropriate translation field based on default language
    • Fixed issue that was causing default user on login page to not populate properly
    • Corrected minor bug in Nitro that was causing "Create New Folder" to not work due to missing literal
    • Reestablished logic for copying records in the administration apps.
    • Fixed portal bypass functionality (via URL parms) and added optional parm for bypassing welcome page
    • Corrected various rendering issues specific to Internet Explorer
    • Fixed remaining minor issues as part of the normal beta testing process

    System Requirements:
    • Any hardware running the IBM i operating system V5R4 or higher. Existing customers on previous versions of Valence at V5R3 will not be able to upgrade to this version until they are at V5R4 or higher. A personal computer running Windows XP, Vista or 7 (for installation only).
    • A compatible browser on client computers. CNX now recommends Google Chrome for the best development and user experience. This version of Valence should work in newer versions of Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer as well as WebKit-based mobile device browsers like those on iPhone, iPad and Android.
    • 5722ST1 is required to use AutoCode, and for the ability to recompile many of the Valence programs that include source code.
    • If you would like to use the PDF and/or Email capabilities of Valence then you need 5722JV1 *BASE and option 6, Java Developer Kit 1.4. This is installed on most systems by default. After installing this version of Valence, just try to run the PDF and email examples. If they work then you know for certain your system has the correct configuration. Note that even though Java is required, you do not need to know or use Java to develop PDFs or send emails with Valence. You will use the Valence RPG Toolkit procedures, which use certain Java functions behind the scenes.
    • Many Valence Nitro functions rely on QSHELL, which is 5722SS1 option 30. This is already installed on the vast majority of systems.

If you need assistance with installing this release please email support@cnxcorp.com.
