Datasource based on Multiple Remote Databases

When creating a Datasource from a Remote Database, we can only add files from a single Remote Database. Can we have a provision for adding files from different Remote Databases to a single Datasource?

Why we need this feature is because
Earlier we had our 2 instances, Prod and Dev, on one server and we had an application that used files from Prod and Dev in the same data source and generate a comparison report in a Grid.
Now, we have 2 different servers for Prod and Dev and we do not have a way to add those files from Prod and Dev in a single data source.
